What do you set up before day one?

This is the heart of it. The teachers who survive year one aren’t the ones with the best lessons in September, they’re the ones who built a few load-bearing systems before students walked in. You can improve a mediocre lesson all year. You cannot retrofit classroom management in October once the room has decided what it can get away with.
